Michael Yellin

Attorney, Law Practice

I am a litigation attorney specializing in complex commercial litigation and real estate special opportunities.

Michael Yellin's Bio:

Michael Yellin is a member of the firm’s Litigation Department and Real Estate Special Opportunities Group. Mike provides creative and practical legal advice that allows private equity, hedge and real estate opportunity funds, lenders, investors, and business owners to maximize opportunities and minimize expense and exposure. His experience includes representing clients during asset acquisition, through litigation, in an out of the bankruptcy process, and ultimately through sale or transfer of the asset. That broad experience gives him the unique ability to quickly evaluate an issue from all sides and formulate creative solutions. Examples of Mike’s work on complex matters, include: Representing a New York-based private investment firm in connection with the acquisition and subsequent foreclosure of a distressed $30 million loan, secured by an office complex near Trenton, New Jersey; Representing a New Jersey private equity fund in recovering its entire investment following the Chapter 11 filing by a New York borrower; Successfully prosecuting a hotly contested commercial foreclosure concerning a $27 million loan secured by a large office building in northern New Jersey; Representing a California investment fund in connection with a $12 million foreclosure action concerning three properties located in Northern New Jersey; and After two-years of contentious litigation and eight days of trial, preventing the majority shareholders of a private corporation from wrongfully terminating a minority shareholder. Mike is an active member of the American Bar Association, Business Law Section’s Private Equity Committee, the New Jersey State Bar Association, and the Bergen County Bar Association. He was elected to the board of Habitat for Humanity of Bergen County in 2016. Mike’s practice has been complemented by his graduation from the John J. Lifland Federal Practice Inn of Court. He is recognized as a “Rising Star” by New Jersey Super Lawyers. No aspect of this advertisement has been approved by the Supreme Court of New Jersey. See Award Methodology. Prior to joining the Cole Schotz, Mike worked as an analyst for a cross-border boutique M&A firm specializing in targeting potential acquisitions throughout the United States and Western Europe. During law school, he interned for the Hon. Jose L. Linares, U.S. District Judge, and the Hon. Patty Shwartz, then-U.S. Magistrate Judge (now a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit).
